Why have we created SEELM?
The world of innovation can be hindered through a lack of equity being present…..
Our aim is to minimise the barriers that individuals in the Leadership space experience as a result of their marginalised makeup. We aspire to cover socio-economic background as a priority and encompass all marginalised groups alongside this.
Having identified a wide range of barriers, through 4 decades of personal experience and almost 2 decades of academic exploration; our Founder Kirsty Watson decided to work towards creating a space for those experiencing barriers to work and/or personal situations.
“A consistent trend that has presented to myself in both life, my academic studies and my 6 year PhD research, is that people have these amazing idea’s. They come up with innovations that are an amalgamation of lived experience, extensive resilience and scarcity. The real problem comes about when the concept is there, yet the resources, social capital or finances are not present. Resulting in cyclical poverty, coasting and massive missed opportunities, by way of innovation. In-turn a continuity of deprivation, dependency and ultimate lack of faith is present.
This provides a perfect storm in areas where unemployment is high, moral is low and opportunities are unavailable. At SEELM we want to not just bridge that gap, but remove it and create a solid foundation for attainable training, support, guidance and a voice to work towards equity for marginalised Entrepreneurs, Leaders and Managers. Along with including Intrapreneurs, working towards them recognising and utilising their skills to innovate plus improve their economical and social futures.” Kirsty Watson (Founder and Chair of SEELM)
